Heriz rugs originate from the northwestern part of Iran and usually have a rather larger format. They are particularly characterised by their robustness. This is because they are made from coarse, high-quality wool yarn in a simple knot on a cotton warp. Small formats are rarely found, so these rugs are more suitable for large rooms such as dining or living rooms. They are also ideal for public or high-traffic spaces, as they show little sign of wear even with frequent use. The design of Heriz rugs is very typical and therefore easy to recognise. A large, straight central medallion gives them the typical look of a Heriz rug.
