Product information "Sarugh antique"
This rugs comes from the famous Iranian knotting region of Sarough (also called Sarouk, Saruk or Sarogh). Sarough covers several provinces in the west of the country, including Arak, Djozan, Ghiasabad, Mahal, Malayer, Mohajeran, Sultanabad and Wiss, where all kinds of Persian patterns are knotted, including those commissioned by customers. Designs from neighbouring regions such as Farahan are particularly popular, as are the company´s own Sultanabad patterns and the Mir-i-Boteh pattern consisting of paisley motifs. The rugs are characterised by their high-quality wool, which comes from the Persian highlands, while the underweave is made of cotton. A blue weft thread can often be found in old and antique rugs. The knotting is very fine and the pile relatively high. Old and antique rugs of the Mahal and Malayer types, which were made in Sarough between 1880 and 1930, are particularly sought after by collectors.
